Foundation Rigging (Glenmore Lodge)

June 13 - June 15

Introduction:

Mountain Rescue Team members will gain knowledge on how to keep safe on steep terrain and

how to create access (abseil), rigging and basic rescue systems. This course is aimed at trainee

or full team members who have limited or no practical knowledge of crag safety or basic rigging

configurations.

Course objectives:

By the end of the course, training will have been provided on:

  • Personal protective equipment (PPE) types, inspection regimes, lifespan, strengths
  • The hazards associated with the steep terrain and the crag environment
  • Measures required to maintain scene safety and key roles of personnel
  • Effective communication in the crag environment
  • Safe movement and positioning on steep terrain and the crag environment
  • The limitations, advantages, disadvantages and appropriate selection and safe use
  • of access, rigging and rescue equipment
  • Commonly used knots and appropriate use
  • How to create anchor systems suitable for single person loads
  • How to create edge attendant systems
  • How to set-up and use a personal abseil system
  • How to create single line lowering systems.
