In an emergency call 999 and ask for Police then Mountain Rescue
Can you tell me more about the 45 degrees Mountaineering Club?
Our club was formed in January 2015 and now has 38 members with home bases from Derbyshire to Aberdeenshire. We have monthly meets, generally in Scottish mountain huts and occasionally in the Lake District. We have also tackled the Mourne Wall in Northern Ireland and in 2019 a group of 11 members enjoyed an 11 day trip to the French and Spanish Pyrenees.
Why did you decide to fundraise/support Scottish Mountain Rescue with your calendars?
Our members enjoy all forms of hillwalking/mountaineering in all seasons. Most are very experienced, but as we all know accidents and navigational mishaps can and do happen. At least a couple of our members can testify. We are eternally grateful for the brave and selfless efforts of SMR when required to lend assistance and save lives.
How long have you been doing this for and what prompted the idea of a calendar to raise funds for SMR?
This is the 2nd year we have raised funds in this way. Our members have taken some awesome photos on their mountaineering trips. The comment “that’s a calendar photo” was often made, so it was a natural progression to produce one and also to raise funds for a worthy cause relevant to our clubs’ activities.
Tell us more about the calendar? What is special about the images that you have included in the calendar?
The images selected are the winners in a friendly competition among members. Prior to the end of the year, the best of the preceding 12 months photos are reviewed and the final selections agreed. This year’s effort has been greatly aided by generous sponsorship from Oakbank Financial Services Ltd. Perth.
How do people buy the calendars?
